Founded in 2020, the National Albanian Hemp Industry Association (NAHIA) is an innovative non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a sustainable and equitable hemp industry in Albania. Our mission is based on six key pillars:
- Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Protection: We advocate for practices that include industrial hemp as a rotation crop, improving soil health, reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, and promoting biodiversity. By cultivating industrial hemp, we also aim to reduce the impact of climate change and promote sustainable land use practices.
- Social Equity and Gender Equality: We support the inclusion of marginalized communities and the active participation of women in the hemp industry, ensuring that the benefits of industrial hemp cultivation and processing are accessible to all, especially those who have historically been excluded from economic opportunities.
- Rural and Economic Development: By promoting industrial hemp as a sustainable crop, we aim to revitalize rural economies and create jobs. We focus on developing a strong and sustainable hemp market that supports sustainable business practices and fosters economic resilience in diverse communities.
- Legislative Reform: We strive to create a favorable legal framework for industrial hemp, advocating for policies that support its cultivation, processing and trade in accordance with European Union and United States standards.
- Social Development and Community Engagement: By integrating industrial hemp into community development initiatives, we aim to improve the quality of life in hemp-growing regions. We prioritize building strong relationships with local communities, ensuring their voices are heard and that they play an active role in shaping the hemp industry.
- Innovation and Research: We encourage research and development in hemp cultivation and processing technologies, fostering innovation that can lead to new products and market opportunities.
At NAHIA, we advocate for legislative reforms that promote the responsible cultivation and use of industrial hemp (industrial cannabis), complying with the highest standards of the European Union and the United States.
